Animal Training With The Science Of Behavior

Thomas Graham, professor emeritus of history at Flagler College, will discuss his latest book, Mr. Flagler’s St. Augustine. This work traces oil magnate Henry M. Flagler’s quest to transform the nation’s Oldest City into a highly desirable vacation destination for the rich, eventually expanding his coastal empire to encompass Palm Beach, Miami, Key West, and finally Nassau. Join us as Graham brings fascinating details of the Gilded Age to life. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

 

St. Johns County Reads: Flagler's Train Documentary Viewing

Flagler's Train: The Florida Keys Over-Sea Railroad is a one hour documentary, produced by WPBT2, which chronicles the imagination and achievements of Henry Morrison Flagler, who spearheaded the development of the over-seas railway connecting Key West to the existing Florida East Coast Railway. Enjoy refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Library while you watch!

St. Johns County Reads: Florida Fixin’s for Fancy Folks

Travel back to the 1920s and 30s, to enjoy a sampling of cuisine inspired by a Florida East Coast Railway dining car menu. Dining aboard the Florida East Coast Railway was lush and renowned. Dining cars were of the latest design with attractive finish and were manned by experienced stewards, chefs, and waiters. Kitchens were equipped with up-to-date appliances for the preparation and serving of meals. Dining car menus showed a wide variety from which to make a selection, and delicious foods, including the famous citrus fruits of Florida. This free culinary event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

 

St. Johns Reads Event: Finding Henry Flagler

Resources of the St. Augustine Historical Society Research Library - Henry Morrison Flagler had a major impact on St. Augustine. There are many physical manifestations of Flagler and the Florida East Coast Railway still in existence. This talk will present the resources of the St. Augustine Historical Society's Research Library by examining pictures, maps, books, and other documentation of the Florida East Coast Railway and Henry Flagler's personal life. This engaging seminar is offered by Bob Nawrocki, Chief Librarian of the St. Augustine Historical Research Library.
