Animal Training with The Science of Behavior

Dog ProgramThursday, February 26 @ 5pm

Be A Pack Leader Dog Walking Club will host a canine education program with special guest, Professional Animal Behaviorist, Courtney Keppen, from Pro Pet Train. Courtney believes in training pet owners to train and communicate with their pets through the science of behavior: positive reinforcement and empowering the animal to make their own correct decisions. There will also be a training demonstration with Bandito the African Grey Parrot. Thomas Graham, professor emeritus of history at Flagler College, will discuss his latest book, Mr. Flagler’s St. Augustine. This work traces oil magnate Henry M. Flagler’s quest to transform the nation’s Oldest City into a highly desirable vacation destination for the rich, eventually expanding his coastal empire to encompass Palm Beach, Miami, Key West, and, finally, Nassau. Join us as Graham brings fascinating details of the Gilded Age to life. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library.

Flagler's Train: The Florida Keys Over-Sea Railroad is a one-hour documentary, produced by WPBT2, which chronicles the imagination and achievements of Henry Morrison Flagler, who spearheaded the development of the over-seas railway connecting Key West to the existing Florida East Coast Railway. Enjoy refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library while you watch.

St. Johns County Reads: Florida Fixins for Fancy Folks

Last Train to ParadiseThursday, February 19 @ 2pm

Travel back to the 1920s and 30s, to enjoy a sampling of cuisine inspired by a Florida East Coast Railway dining car menu. Dining aboard the Florida East Coast Railway was lush and renowned. Dining cars were of the latest design with attractive finishes and were manned by experienced stewards, chefs, and waiters. Kitchens were equipped with up-to-date appliances for the preparation and serving of meals. Dining car menus showed a wide variety from which to make a selection, and delicious foods, including the famous citrus fruits of Florida. This free culinary event is sponsored by the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library.

 

St. Johns Reads Event: Finding Henry Flagler

Henry Morrison Flagler had a major impact on St. Augustine. In fact, there are many physical manifestations of Flagler and the Florida East Coast Railway still in existence. This talk will present the resources of the St. Augustine Historical Society's Research Library by examining pictures, maps, books, and other documentation of the Florida East Coast Railway and Henry Flagler's personal life. This engaging seminar is offered by Bob Nawrocki, Chief Librarian of the St. Augustine Historical Research Library.

Be A Pack Leader Dog Walking Club will host a canine education program with special guests, Victoria and Richard Warfel from Dream Dogz Training Center in Gainesville, Florida. They utilize Pressure, Release, and Reward which allows the dog to learn what is being taught and forms a solid bond between dog and owner. Similar to Horsemanship, Dream Dogz puts the dog first, then the person, and works together towards a common goal which they call Dogmanship.
