Baby, it's hot outside! It's the perfect weather for the official drink of June: Iced Tea. Making iced tea is simple but making great iced tea is another matter. It takes more than simply boiling water and dropping in a couple of tea bags. Joa Jane from Lah-Tea-Dah! will be on hand to share the art and science behind making great iced tea. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy some refreshing samples as we celebrate National Iced Tea Month. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library.

Science Behind Taking Great Photographs

Great photographs are created through a technique that applies artistic design within a medium that relies on technical precision. Local artist and lifelong photographer, Tom Tibbitts, will help you take your photos to a new level. Come learn the science behind artistic design, elements of light exposure, contrast, depth, composition’s rule of thirds, or Fibonacci’s Ratio as the Golden Mean. The science behind great photographs is the ability to know the rules, when to follow them, and when to break them.

Join us in this month's book club by reading Stolen Lives: Twenty Years in a Desert Jail by Malika Oufkir. Malika spent most of her childhood and adolescence in the court harem, surrounded by luxury and privilege. In 1972, her father was executed after an attempt to assassinate the king. Malika, her five brothers and sisters, and her mother were immediately imprisoned in a desert penal colony. After twenty years, the Oufkir children managed to dig a tunnel with their bare hands and make an audacious escape. Reserve it. All are welcome to join.

 

CPR for Parents & Caretakers

Parents and caretakers are invited to the library to participate in a CPR program. Modern Woodmen will be at the library teaching basic CPR and first aid for children. If you work with children, or are a parent and have never learned basic CPR techniques, you can't afford to miss this free program.

 

 

Summer Reading Event: Dog Circus

Dog CircusWednesday, June 18 @ 2:30pm & 3:30pm
Come to the library to see some amazing dog tricks, learn some dog training and safety tips from our local experts Silke, Julie, and some special K-9 friends. To ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the program, there will be 90 tickets available 1 hour before each show. Children of all ages may attend; please be aware, however, that the Summer Reading Programs are designed for the school-age child. 

 

Knit Wits Knitting Club for Kids & Teens

Gentle Stretching With Gina

This free class emphasizes stretching, coordination of breath with movement, and attention to alignment. The class is designed to create breath awareness, enhance balance, and increase flexibility. Stretching is great for those who are experiencing joint sensitivity, or overall stiffness. Wear loose clothing, bring a towel & mat. Presented by yoga instructor, Gina Mercado.
