FREE Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Preschoolers Ages 3-5

All children ages 3 - 5 are invited to receive a 10-minute FREE Early Literacy Screening at the Library courtesy of Nemours BrightStart! Utilize this wonderful opportunity to find out where your child's literacy strengths lay and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school!
Children's Program: DIY Summer Science with JEA's Home Energy Evaluation Kits!

Calling all kids! How can a laser beam help you save energy? What's a kilowatt? Where does the energy for your game system come from? Join us on July 9th at 1 pm for some free summer science experiments using the JEA Home Energy Evaluation Kits! SPACE IS LIMITED! Call us at 827-6960 to register. The first seven people to register will have first dibs at borrowing the kits immediately after the program. Everyone else will be placed on a waiting list for the kits.
Workshop: Coaching Skills to Set Your ADHD Child Up for Success

Parents will learn the skills that ADHD coaches use to help children develop their strengths. This class will focus on the 3 R's of success: respect, responsibility, and resourcefulness. Parents will learn why the 3 R's are so important. They will feel empowered with techniques that can be used every day to raise successful children. This workshop is led by ADHD Coach, Deborah Gomer, BSN, RN, CCM. She has over 22 years experience as a Registered Nurse and is a Certified Case Manager. She has worked as an Educator and Clinical Supervisor, using coaching skills to bring out the best in those she works with.
Fun with Flowers...for KIDS!

Pre-Registration for these workshops begins Friday, June 1, 2012 and is required as space is limited. Please register at the circulation desk or by calling the library at 827-6960! Children ages 5 - 12 are invited to become "Bee Detectives", to "make and take" child-friendly, creative floral arrangements using food and flowers, and to meet Eric, a professional beekeeper coming to teach you all about bees and why not to be afraid of our pollinators!
These workshops are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Bartram Trail Branch Library and the Garden Club of St. Augustine and in collaboration with the St. Johns County Beekeepers Association. PLEASE NOTE: Beekeeper Eric will be bringing a safe, live hive of honeybees and children under the age of 10 must have a parent or guardian present for the duration of the program per the library's policy!

Google Maps can do SO MUCH MORE than simply look up an address. Come to this hour session to learn how to maximize your Google Maps experience. In this class we'll talk about the finer points about conducting Internet searches. We'll discuss Boolean searching, subject directories, and how to evaluate websites. You'll be able to impress your friends and family with your Google-Fu after this class! Registration is required.
