Adult Book Club: Police Procedurals

typewriterIn the 1940's, stories presented from the police perspective were gritty and realistic. Inevitably, crime fiction made the transition to television. Pulitzer Prize winner Sidney Kingsley wrote the Broadway Play Detective Story, considered a benchmark in the development of the genre. Hillary Waugh, John Creasy, and Ed McBain, considered the most successful of the early police procedurals authors, virtually define the form.
