FLYP Event: LB Reptile Experience

LB Reptile Experience    Bartram Trail’s FLYP Programs take place at 10am on Thursdays.  Each program is held at the Family Activities Building (FAB) at Switzerland Community Church located at 2179 State Road 13.   Children of all ages may attend; please be aware, however, that FLYP Programs are geared toward the school-age child.  Strollers and street shoes will not be permitted in the building.  Contact the library at 827-6960 for additional information.  Tell your friends and join us on July 9 if you want to get up close and personal with lizards, snakes, turtles and more. This program helps educate children about the needs, conservation and care of these wonderful reptiles. *This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Bartram Trail Branch Library.


Thursday May 28 @ 4 pm
The Florida Library Youth Program continues at Main library with a special edition featuring our heroes at The Guana Tolomoto Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve. Come learn all about Sea Turtles and how the GTM Reserve is working hard to protect our aquatic friends. Seating is limited so be sure to arrive early. Ages 6-16 only please. Sponsored by The Friends of Main Library St. Augustine.


Rainstick Art

Saturday, May 23 @ 1 pm

The rainstick, originally made from cactus and pebbles, was believed to have been first used in the deserts of Northern Chile. People hoped that the instrument, which creates a sound like falling rain, would bring water to their dry climate. Kids are invited to the library to make and decorate their own rainsticks.


May "Just for Babies" and Family Storytimes

Just for Babies - Held Thursdays, May 14 and May 28 at 10:15am; for babies up to 15 months and their caregivers. This infant lapsit is designed for one-on-one interaction between caregiver and baby. Families with multiple children are encouraged to attend Family Storytime.

Family Storytime - Held every Thursday morning in May at 11am; for children 16 months - 5 years and their families, though no child will be turned away. For more information on system-wide library storytimes, please go here. Please note:  May 7 at 11 am is our special Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra program for preschoolers, Musical Storybooks!

Children's Book Week: Musical Storybooks presented by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra's String Quartet

Join us in celebrating Children's Book Week with a very special storytime featuring the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and Mole Music by David McPhail! Youth Services Librarian (and former clarinetist!) Anne Crawford, the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, are partnering to invite Kindergartners - 5th graders and their caregivers to celebrate the magic that is music! In culmination of the Musical Madness for Kids series, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra will present a special Musical Storybooks program for preschoolers and their families featuring children's book Mole Music by David McPhail and the String Quartet. Come get a taste of the magical world of classical music!

Please note:  the Musical Storybooks program is geared toward preschoolers. If you wish to bring younger children to any of these programs, please be mindful of the decorum expected for everyone's enjoyment. This special music series is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.


Children's Book Week: Japanese Culture & Candy Sushi

First Book of Sushi book coverKids and teens are invited to learn about Japanese culture, including customs, food, and language and to make candy sushi. Learn how to use chopsticks and to spell your name in Katakana. See how Japanese culture has influenced some of the items you love to check out of the library. Plus, for those of you who want to try the real thing, Ms. Michelle will bring some samples of o-nigiri, a rice snack wrapped with seaweed.


Free Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Ages 3 - 5

Thursday, May 14 from 10am - 12:30pm 

childrenChildren ages 3 - 5 are invited to receive a free, 10-minute Early Literacy Screening at the library, courtesy of Nemours BrightStart. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lie, and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school.


LEGO Club for Tweens

LegoWednesday, May 20 from 3pm - 4:30pm
Tweens in 4th - 7th grades (ages 9 - 13) are invited to the library for an afternoon of building with Legos and hanging out! No registration is necessary and it's free. Thanks to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for providing the Legos for this very special program just for Tweens, including our pink Legos. Tween girl Lego lovers, we want you to join our club, too. All young LEGO lovers, please enjoy our brand-new LEGO table in the Children's Department, purchased by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, so that this special program may just be for the Tweens!


After-School Crafts with Teens (CANCELED)
