Whimsically Wonderful Winter Crafts with Andy & Marcia

Winter Crafts for KidsWednesday, December 12 @ 3 pm
Even the youngest crafter will welcome the winter season with these beautiful, easy-to-make projects. The crafts, all based on the symbols of winter, include snow, snowmen, and mittens. Join our children's staff for an afternoon of FREE crafting to celebrate the holiday season. Enjoy hot chocolate while crafting, and be sure to check out some of our children's books on winter!   

 

Pig-Out Pancake Party!

One thing leads to another when you give a pig a pancake...so who knows what will happen when you give a kid a pancake, but that's what we're gonna do. Enjoy a lively rendition of Laura Numeroff's beloved classic, If You Give a Pig a Pancake. Afterwards, we'll have decorate-your-own-pancakes with a smorgasbord of edible decorations.  Kids of all ages are welcome to this FREE program, sponsored by the Friends of the Library.  Check out these other great Numeroff books!

 

International Games Day

International Games DaySaturday, November 3 from 1 - 4 pm

Thanks to our special gaming friends at PlayStation, all children, teens, and their families have the opportunity today to try out a not-yet-released game called "Wonderbook: Book of Spells" for the PlayStation3. According to PlayStation:  Wonderbook: Book of Spells takes you on a magical interactive journey of becoming a powerful wizard in your very own living room. Featuring original writing from world famous author, J.K. Rowling, discover back story and new conundrums from the world of Harry Potter. Chapter by chapter, you will be able to read about and practice spells including such fan favorites as Incendio, Wingardium Leviosa, and Expelliarmus. Learn valuable experiences and lessons along the way to becoming a master witch or wizard and earn House Points - just like a student at Hogwarts!

This film follows the heroic journey of Merida, a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land. Merida's actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her skills and resources to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late, discovering the meaning of true bravery. Rated PG. School's Out! Gaming

School's Out GamingWednesday, November 21 from 1-3 pm
School-age children, tweens, and teens choose what they want to play with a day of no school at the Main library. A selection of video game choices for X-box 360, PS3, & Wii consoles will be offered.  Complimentary snacks and soda will be provided.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library & Sony.

 

International Games Day @ Main Library

International Games DaySaturday, November 3 @ 5 pm
Celebrate the American Library Association's 5th Annual International Games Day with us!  Visit the Reference Desk any time on Saturday, to borrow one of our board games to play in the library.  We'll have Pictureka, Scrabble Slam, Wits & Wagers, & more games. Fun for the whole family!  

 

November Storytimes @ Main Library!

Weekly Storytimes @ Main LibraryFall is here, and we can't wait for you to join us for all the laughs with books, songs, stories and fun at our during our Fall Storytime season!  We'll have these themes this month: Bathtime, Fall, and Thanksgiving.  So join us on Thursdays, November 1, 8, & 15!

Baby Time 10:15 am
A gentle lapsit program with action rhymes, fingerplays, and first books for babies.  For infants & pre-walkers only, please.
Toddler Time 11 am
We'll sing, we'll dance, and share our excitement for books and learning at the library. Don't be shy and bring your dancing shoes!
Preschool Storytime 11:30 am
"Big Kids" get a storytime of their own. Longer stories, a variety of early literacy concepts, listening, and pre-classroom skills.  Perfect for 3-5 year olds.

 

FREE Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Preschoolers Ages 3 - 5

storytimeTuesday, November 27 from 10 am - 12:30 pm

Children ages 3 - 5 are invited to receive a 10-minute FREE Early Literacy Screening at the Library courtesy of Nemours BrightStart! Registration will be taken on a first-come, first serve basis on this day by Angela of Nemours. Nemours BrightStart will be returning in 2013 to conduct more screenings at the Library for those not able to take advantage of the opportunity on this date. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lay and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school!
