Fort Mose: A Hidden Jewel with Dr. Dorothy Headley Israel

A National Historic Landmark, Fort Mose is the site of the first legally sanctioned free African settlement in the United States. Dr. Israel will share her thoughts and take the audience on a journey that begins before Africans landed in St. Augustine with Juan Garrido and Francisco Menendez, then moves to Fort Mose and its settlement, and continues through to today's experiences that influence the Nation's Oldest City. She will be joined in her presentation by Roselyn "Riz" Cole, international storyteller/poet, and Carolyn Fields and Twila Hudson, local oral historians.

St. Johns Reads Event: Brown Bag Lunch with Dr. Thomas Graham

St. Johns ReadsDr. Thomas Graham, professor emeritus at Flagler College, will bring the fascinating details of the Gilded Age in St. Augustine to life at the Main Library's February Brown Bag Lunch program. His latest book, Mr. Flagler's St. Augustine, traces oil magnate Henry M. Flagler's quest to transform the nation's oldest city into a highly desirable vacation destination for the rich. Patrons are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy during the presentation. Beverages and snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine. Seating is limited. MAIN-iac Science Labs: Water Displacement

Join mad scientists, Mr. Andy and Ms. Marcia, as they dive into science. Young science enthusiasts, ages 6-16, are invited to join Main-iac Labs and have fun with our hands on experiments.
