After School Gaming

After School GamingThursday, September 13 @ 4 pm
School-age children, tweens, and teens choose what they want to play after school at the Main library. A selection of video game choices for X-box 360, PS3, & Wii consoles will be offered.  Complimentary snacks and soda will be provided.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library and Sony.

 

52 Ways to Use Your Library Card Contest

September 1 to September 29
Did you know your library card can be used for more than just checking out books?  The American Library Association came up with a list of 52 ways to use your library card, which can be viewed by clicking on the Smartest Card logo.  To celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month this year we are challenging the teens and adults of St. Johns County to help us come up with a local list.   Stop by the Main Library during September to submit 1 to 52 ways you have found to use your library card.  The most unique ways will be compiled into a final list at the end of the month.  For each way you submit that ends up on the final list, you may select a FREE book off our prize cart!

Peace Day Pinwheels for Peace

Friday, September 21 @ 4 pm
The International Day of Peace is devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples. This year we invite school age children to realize a culture of peace for all with us by crafting paper peace pinwheels. The finished pinwheels will be placed in the ground in front of the library to celebrate Peace Day. Enjoy peace snow cones while crafting or watching the pinwheels spin together outside.

 

Adult Book Club: In the Garden of Beasts

Please join us for our monthly book club. The bestselling author of "Devil in the White City" turns his hand to a remarkable story set during Hitler's rise to power. The time is 1933, the place, Berlin, when William E. Dodd becomes America's first ambassador to Hitler's Germany in a year that proved to be a turning point in history. Enjoy sharing your thoughts of the book, along with coffee & refreshments, courtesy of the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County.

 

A.A.A. (Adult Anime Association)

Monday, September 10 @ 5 pm
Join us at the Main Library for a night of anime (Japanese Animation) and popcorn. Explore a variety of series and features, old and new, and meet others with similar interests. This program is geared for an older audience of anime enthusiasts.

 

 

J.A.A.M. (Japanese Anime At Main)

JAAMMonday, September 24 @ 5 pm
Tweens, teens, and young twenty-somethings are invited to the monthly meeting of our anime club, where you can meet others with similar interests. We’ll be viewing assorted Anime & enjoying Japanese candy.  Feel free to wear a costume if you’d like and come JAAM with us!

 

Gentle Yoga with Gina

Gentle Yoga presents an introduction to basic yoga poses. The class emphasizes stretching, coordination of breath with movement, and attention to alignment. The class is designed to create breath awareness, enhance balance, and increase flexibility. Gentle Yoga is for people new to yoga or those who are experiencing joint sensitivity, or overall stiffness due to lack of activity. Wear loose clothing, bring a towel and yoga mat. Presented by licensed massage therapist and yoga instructor, Gina Mercado.
