MAIN-iac Science Labs - The Hour of Code

Explore computer programming for kids with the world wide Hour of Code! Teens and pre-teens can explore a basic introduction to computer science and even learn basic programming skills using popular video game characters. The lessons increase in difficulty as you move through them so come back each month to improve your skills. This one hour program is designed to demystify code and show that anyone can learn the basics. There will be guided lessons as well as individual and group exploration. You can bring your own laptop or tablet or you can borrow one of ours. Supplies are limited. MAIN-iac Science Labs: FLYP edition - Einstein-A-Go-Go

Join mad scientists, Mr. Andy and Ms. Marcia, as they dive into science. Young science enthusiasts, ages 6-16, are invited to join Main-iac Labs and have fun with our hands-on experiments. In this special FLYP edition of MAIN-iac Science Labs, we'll be learning about our favorite science hero, Albert Einstein. We'll even try some experiments based on his scientific theories. Seating is limited so be sure to arrive early. Sponsored by the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine.

It's summer and the Florida Library Youth Program is underway at Main. Join us each Thursday for another great summer program in the large meeting room. This year's theme is "Every Hero Has A Story" and this week's film features a SUPER group of legendary heroes banding together to protect the children of the world from the evil Pitch Black. Rated PG. Free popcorn while it lasts. Sponsored by the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine.

 

Brown Bag Lunch: Sensational Succulents - Container Gardening

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. Dottie Hudson, President of the Gaillardia Circle of the Garden Club of St. Augustine will share her horticultural and design expertise. She will present Sensational Succulents - Container Gardening. For this program she will share some ideas and designs for container gardens of cacti and other succulents. The program is free of charge and open to the public. Bring your lunch and enjoy the program as well as light refreshments provided by the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine. Florida Writers Association: Writing the Action-Adventure Hero

Author Chris Berman will present on Writing the Action-Adventure Hero and discuss settings, plot formula, and the persona of the action hero. This program will look at the origins of the action hero, why this genre is so popular, and what makes the character of the action hero different than other literary characters. For those writers looking to craft their own action-adventure story, this will be a highly useful program.

This meeting is sponsored by the Florida Writers Association/Ancient City Chapter and the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine. All book sales benefit the Friends of the Library. Doors open at 10am. All meetings are free and open to the public.
