AARP Tax Assistance

AARP Tax AssistanceMondays, April 6 & 13 @ 10 am - 2 pm

Saturdays, April 11 @ 10 am - 2 pm

The AARP Tax-Aide program offers free, one-on-one counseling to help individuals prepare basic tax forms, including the 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, and other standard schedules. Counseling is available to all low-to-middle income taxpayers, regardless of age. No advance registration is needed, people will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Individuals must bring a photo ID, last year's tax return, and all relevant tax information with them.

 

J.A.A.M. (Japanese Anime At Main)

Do you love watching anime or reading manga? Tweens, teens, and young twenty-somethings are invited to the monthly meeting of our anime club, where you can meet others with similar interests. How To Turn Factual Research Into Astounding Fiction

Author Arliss Ryan will present on turning your factual research into riveting fiction that will keep readers turning pages late into the night. Using excerpts from her novels, this “craft of writing” program will demonstrate a variety of creative techniques for integrating research and other background information into a story. You will learn how to:

  • Incorporate historical facts and other types of research into your novel without bogging down the story;
  • Spread your research throughout your novel to create tension and advance the plot;
  • Turn hard facts into vivid emotions that make your characters come alive

This meeting is sponsored by the FWA/ACC and the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine. All book sales benefit the Friends of the Library. Doors open at 10am. All meetings are free and open to the public.

Silent Peace Meditation

Meditation teacher, Kathleen Roberts, will open the group with a short breathing exercise and lead us into a silent meditation, where the participants will think peace. The St. Johns Housing Partnership is holding a free class designed to help families talk about money, manage their money, and build (or re-build) good credit. This two-hour class includes tracking your money, setting financial goals, spending plans, getting smart about credit, and managing the costs of homeownership. Call 819-1266 to register.
