St. Johns Reads Events: Mystery-Themed "Just for Babies" and Family Storytimes

MysteryTuesday, February 5 @ 10:15 am ("Just for Babies") and @ 11 am (Family Storytime)

Join us for a special, mystery-themed "Just for Babies" program and Family Storytime celebrating our 2013 St. Johns Reads book, The Yard, by Alex Grecian! At both of these sessions, we will enjoy suspenseful picture books for young children and, at Family Storytime, we will each be decorating our own spyglass. Join us to find out who took the cookies from the cookie jar...and more! Parents, grandparents, and caregivers:  request and read our 2013 St. Johns Reads book, The Yard, by Alex Grecian and enjoy a month's worth of mystery programs celebrating this book!

 

Family Game Time

Family Board Game NightWednesday, February 27 from 3 - 6 pm

On the 4th Wednesday of every month between 3 - 6 pm, the whole family is invited to the library to play board games. Simply use your library card or driver's license to check out a board game or two and play anywhere in the library. Challenge your family and friends to your favorite games! Call the Library at 827-6950 for more details. All board games are provided by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

 

LEGO Club for Tweens

LegoWednesday, February 20 from 4 - 5 pm

Tweens in 4th - 7th grade ONLY are invited to come on out and bring your friends for an afternoon of fun building with Legos and hanging out at the library. No registration is necessary and it's free! Thanks to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for providing the Legos for this very special program just for Tweens! Please Note:  Starting in January 2013, this program moves from the 2nd to the 3rd Wednesday of every month! Also, thanks to the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, we now have pink Legos, too - tween girl Lego lovers, we want you to join our club!!

 

FREE Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Preschoolers Ages 3 - 5

storytimeTuesday, February 19 from 10 am - 12:30 pm

Children ages 3 - 5 are invited to receive a 10-minute FREE Early Literacy Screening at the Library courtesy of Nemours BrightStart! Registration will be taken on a first-come, first serve basis on this day by a representative of Nemours. Nemours BrightStart will be returning monthly in 2013 to conduct more screenings at the Library for those not able to take advantage of the opportunity on this date. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lay and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school!

 

After-School Crafts with Teens

art programWednesday, February 13 from 4 - 5 pm

Children in Kindergarten - 5th grade, and their caregivers, are invited to make crafts with the teens of Nease High School's Arts in Motion Club! Materials are provided by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, no registration is needed, and it's FREE! Please Note:  All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program and starting in January 2013, this program moves from the 1st to the 2nd Wednesday of every month!

 

Teen Advisory Board

Teens ages 13 - 18 ONLY are invited to join our new Teen Advisory Board and have a say in the materials we order for teens, the teen programs we offer, and much more at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library! Participation in the Teen Advisory Board counts as service hours and snacks will be served provided by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. Join us for our meeting - led by Youth Services Librarian Anne Crawford - and get involved!

 

St. Johns Reads Event: Sisterhood of the Traveling Plants - Victorian Language of Flowers

Everyone is welcome to celebrate our 2013 St. Johns Reads book, The Yard, by Alex Grecian with this special Victorian event! The Sisterhood of the Traveling Plants' (Cathy and Marilyn) are coming to your library to help you discover the meaning behind flowers and how they can come together in beautiful arrangements! If you wish, buy raffle tickets from the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library to win the arrangements the Sisterhood creates! Proceeds from the raffle help to sponsor this event. Doors will open promptly at 1:30 pm for this event! Light refreshments will be generously provided by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. Please note:  Though Sisterhood programs are usually are held on Saturdays, this special Sisterhood program is held on a Thursday!

 

St. Johns Reads Event: Victorian Cream Tea

TeaSaturday, February 16 @ 3 pm

Please join us for an afternoon teatime delight of hot tea and scones with clotted cream and fruited jam, as well as a presentation of the history on tea and its important health benefits.  Space is limited, reservations are required.  Please call 827-6950 to register.

 

St. Johns Reads Event: Murder, Mayhem and a Medical Examiner

MysteryWednesday, February 13 @ 6:30 pm

Author, speaker, and forensic death investigator, Kent Holloway, of the St. Johns County Medical Examiners' Office, will be breaking down the details of where the facts and fiction of forensic death investigation meet in a fun and entertaining presentation.
