Book Talk Café: Memorable Memoirs

This month's Book Talk Café features three remarkable men who will share their personal stories of lives lived to the fullest. Each one has a vastly different story to tell, and they have each written about their personal journeys in their memoirs: At the End of the Road: One Man’s Journey from Chaos to Clarity by Tim White; Special Agent in Charge, Forrest G. Guthrie’s memoir of his life as a Secret Service Agent who helped protect seven different Presidents; and, The Unlikely Priest by J. Perry Smith, a man who led a life filled with intrigue, danger, and adventure, and eventually became an Episcopal priest. This program is made possible by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

 

Great Books Discussion Group

Computer Class: Genealogy Online

Who do you think you are? Learn the basics of using Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org to start discovering your family's history. Participants must have a basic knowledge of computers. Adventures in Art: Cummer Gardens Tour & Lunch

Children's Book Week: Author Visit by Jake Marcionette

Celebrate Children's Book Week with New York Times best-selling teen author,  Ponte Vedra resident, and library patron, Jake Marcionette. He will sign copies of his book, Just Jake, which will be available for purchase. Meet Jake, find out more about his book based on his middle school adventures, discover how he made it big, and celebrate our now famous library patron. Light refreshments will be served and we will be raffling off copies of Jake's book thanks to the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. National Library Week: Teen Movie Night

National Library Week 2014Wednesday, April 16 @ 4:30pm (new start time!)

All teens (Ages 13 - 18) are invited to celebrate National Library Week's Support Teen Literature Day with a new movie (rated PG-13) based on a popular book by J.R.R. Tolkien. Hobbit-related prizes will be raffled and pizza and sodas will be served thanks to the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. Call the library at 827-6950 for the movie title and with any questions. Please note:  The start time of this movie has changed from 5pm to 4:30pm!

 

National Library Week: Support Teen Literature Day

Celebrate National Library Week's Support Teen Literature Day (Thursday, April 17) all week by checking out our display of awesome teen books loved by both teens and adults. Teen books have gained popularity over the years and now many teen series and titles - The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars, Twilight, Percy Jackson, and so many more - are as beloved by adults as they are by teens. Check one (or several!) of these books out and find out what the fuss is about.

 

Family Game Time

Family Board Game NightWednesday, April 23 from 3pm - 6pm
Every 4th Wednesday of the month, the whole family is invited to the library to play board games, including Monopoly, Connect Four, Candy Land, Scrabble, Chutes & Ladders, Uno, and many more. Simply use your library card, or driver's license, to check out the games. All board games - including our new ones (Trivial Pursuit Family Edition, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Don't Drop the Egg, Super Mario Brothers Checkers, and Apples to Apples Disney Edition) are provided by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

 

LEGO Club for Tweens

Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, tweens in 4th-7th grades are invited to the library for an afternoon of building with Legos and hanging out. No registration is necessary and it's free. Thanks to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for providing the Legos for this very special program just for Tweens, including our pink Legos. Tween girl Lego lovers, we want you to join our club, too. We love our tweens and that they use our library - happy National Library Week.


Free Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Ages 3 - 5

National Library Week 2014Tuesday, April 15 from 10am - 12:30pm
Children ages 3-5 are invited to receive a free, 10-minute Early Literacy Screening at the library, courtesy of Nemours BrightStart. Registration is taken on a first-come, first serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lay and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school. This special monthly offering is yet another reason to love your library - happy National Library Week.
