Summer Reading Program: Fractured Fairytales - A Pirate's Life for Me

Wednesday, July 31 @ 2 pm

skullAarrgh ye ready, landlubbers?  It’s time to set sail for adventure with Captain Kristine and First Mate Alex!  Turn in your completed reading log and be transformed into a pirate – you’ll even get a new pirate name!  Then help the Captain and First Mate tell a classic fairytale story (all wrong, of course).  The treasure map in the story will lead you to the treasure and the special guests that hold it!

Parents, please note that this program will take place (mostly) outside and that your child will get wet.  Appropriate swimwear and cover-ups are permitted; shoes are required.

This program for school-aged children is sponsored by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

 

Summer Reading Program: Swamp Stories

Join Steve on a journey back to Old Florida as he tells stories of his childhood and shares real Florida history. See and touch actual artifacts, taste real beef jerky, and become part of the story as he brings his stories to life.  This program for school-aged children is sponsored by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library and is part of the Viva Florida 500 celebration. 

 

Summer Reading Program: PB&J Archaeology

Did you ever wonder how archaeologists find sites?  Excavate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to find out!  Dig up the past and learn about real tools, fieldwork, and archaeological sites through hands-on activities.  This program for school-aged children is sponsored and hosted by the Florida Public Archaeology Network and is part of the Viva Florida 500 celebration.

 

Summer Reading Program: Fabulous Florida Bats!

Join bat advocate Marcia Daniels as she teaches us about the amazing bats found in our area, and why they need our help! Bats are amazing bug eaters with important roles to play in our local ecosystem. Discover the wonderful world of bats through this interactive family program. View and listen to bats as they emerge from local bat houses. We'll even have a BATastic craft to reminds us that bats are really our friends! This free program is sponsored in partnership with the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County.

 

Teen Gaming Tournament

mario kartSaturday, June 29 @ 2 pm

Do you have what it takes to beat our Southeast Gaming Grand Master?  Practice your Mario Kart skills during the month of June in our Galaxy Game Room (click here for hours) and then come to the Mario Kart tournament for a chance to beat our Grand Master.  Pizza and prizes will be provided by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

 

Teen Financial Literacy Workshop (Ages 15-20)

moneySaturday, June 22 from 10 am to 3 pm

Are you starting your first job, graduating from high school, or heading off to college? Whatever the reason, every teen needs to learn how to manage money. The St. Johns River Chapter of Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the St. Johns County Public Library System are teaming up to offer this full day (10 am to 3 pm) workshop to teens age 15-20. Subjects covered will be budgeting, saving, personal investing, using credit wisely, avoiding identity theft and more. Class size is limited so call us at 827-6900 or stop by the Youth Services Desk to register! This workshop is sponsored by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library and lunch will be provided.

 

Movie Night at Southeast (rated PG-13)

Thursday, June 20 @ 6 pm

Everyone is invited to the Southeast Branch to watch this FREE newly released movie about a zombie who, after rescuing a human survivor, starts to become increasingly more human.  Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.

Summer Reading Program: It's Alive! The Wild Side of Florida

During this special visit by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, school-age children will learn ways they can improve natural Florida.  This Viva Florida 500 event is geared toward school-aged children.  This program is sponsored by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

Bedtime Storytime

Wear your PJs to this special session of our regular Wednesday storytime where we do storytime backwards!  Arts and crafts come first and then we will wind down with some favorite stories.  This is a family program that is suitable for all young children.

Let's "Dig Into Reading" by taking some undersea journeys into the ocean, the sea, and the bottom of a goldfish bowl!  Parents, please note that this is the same storytime we will be doing on Wednesday, June 19.
