AARP Tax Assistance

tax formsThe AARP Tax-Aide program offers free, one-on-one counseling to help individuals prepare basic tax forms, including the 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, and other standard schedules. Counseling is available to all low-to-middle income taxpayers, regardless of age. No advance registration is needed, people will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals must bring a photo ID, last year's tax return, and all relevant tax information with them.

 

Friends of the Hastings Branch Library Meeting

Thursday, March 12 @ 6 pm

Help your library (and your community) by becoming a Friend. Friends do things like staff the bookstore, represent the library at community events, and come up with ideas to raise funds and promote the library. The Friends efforts provide funding for library programming, crafts for storytime, extra library materials and much more. Meetings are the second Thursday of every month for one hour.

Book Club for Adults

book cover The Story of Edgar SawtelleFocusing on "the seven basic plots" of all literature for 2015, in March we will feature "tragedy." Participants are encouraged to read "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle" by David Wroblewski and/or Hamlet by William Shakespeare. We will compare the basic plots.  Readers may choose any book with the "tragedy" plot and be prepared to defend their selection.

Spring Fling Family Event

Johnny and Beanie’s Café and The Hastings Friends of the Library will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, March 21st from 4p.m. to 6 p.m., with live music provided by Good Puppy, to help raise money for the Hastings Branch Library. Good Puppy is a band made up of five local middle school students managed by local professional musician Tom Santoni. Tickets for the dinner are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Tickets will be available for pre-sale at the Hastings Library and at Johnny and Beanie’s Cafe.
