Kids can learn about the advent of pottery in Florida and do hands-on experimentation using pottery-making and decorating technology. They will learn how pottery helps archaeologists understand a site and its prehistoric people.  Children of all ages may attend; please be aware, however, that the Summer Reading Events are intended for the school-age child. To ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the program, there will be 95 tickets available 1 hour before each show. This program is sponsored and hosted by the Florida Public Archaeology Network.

Meet the Slime Sisters, Beaker and Dr. Squish (Ms. Amy and Ms. Anne) as they present an interactive program full of audience participation, corny science jokes, icky science facts, and even slime. We'll learn about the five senses with audience volunteers helping us explore how things taste, smell, feel, sound, and look through stories, experiments, songs, and more. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lie, and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school.

Olaf, the happy snowman, invites the whole family to join Youth Services Librarian Anne and Girly-Girl Partea's at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for "Frozen" fun in July. We'll kick off the fun with frozen stories, bubble dancing to "Frozen" songs, decorating Olaf snowmen, topping it all off with a very special visit from the Snow Queen herself. Dressing up in your favorite "Frozen" clothing is absolutely encouraged, but not required. We look forward to celebrating all the fun things you can do "in summer." Children (ages 6 - 12) are invited to become Nature Detectives at our hands-on workshops where we'll learn all about bats and how these pollinators relate to gardening. Every child will receive free gardening goodies, including Nature Detective notebooks, and enjoy learning all about our wonderful Florida bats and why they are so valuable and not so scary. These workshops are designed by the Sisterhood of the Traveling Plants, sponsored by the Garden Club of St. Augustine and the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, with special partners from Bird Island Park providing activities with a special bat craft afterwards. All our summer reading participants are invited to join us for our celebratory Ice Cream Party and to wear your pajamas, if you wish. St. Augustine's Jane Quackenbush, author of The Rocket Ship Bed Trip, will be our special guest with a story about how you can dream your way around the solar system. Copies of the book will be on sale with proceeds benefitting the library. Join us for ice cream, an out-of-this-world story, crafts, and more.
