Come meet a real live turtle! Terry the Diamondback Terrapin will be visiting Main Library with her handler, Tina Gordon, Coastal Training Program Coordinator for the GTM Research Reserve. You can meet Terry and learn all about where she lives, what she eats and what makes this turtle so special. This program is brought to you by the GTM Research Reserve and The Friends of Main Library St. Augustine.

Literary Lions Book Club: Reluctant Intern by Bill Yancey

Reluctant InternAuthor Bill Yancey will be in attendance at this special book club meeting as we discuss his most recent book, Reluctant Intern. New members are always welcome.

About the book: Addison Wolfe never wanted to be a physician. He wants to be an astronaut. NASA turned down his application, forcing him to seek employment as a doctor. The problem with obtaining a physician's license is that it is necessary to complete an internship to acquire one. Wolfe finds himself in an undesirable rotating internship in a very busy public hospital. Reserve it!

 

Hypnosis for Relaxation

Want to get away and relax but can’t find the time? For a limited time only, SJCPLS will be offering free hypnosis sessions for relaxation and rejuvenation to prepare you for the holiday season. After attending our one hour session, you’ll leave feeling rested and ready to conquer the world!

Dr. Chris Beverly will explain the nature and benefits of using hypnosis for relaxation before leading participants through a guided hypnosis session.
Dr. Beverly is a Certified Hypnotist and graduate of the Omni Hypnosis Center.

To attend the Hypnosis for Relaxation Session, participants must be:

  • at least 18 years of age, or
  • at least 15 years of age and accompanied by a legal guardian.

Author John Boles will present on why authors worldwide use "The Hero's Journey" to unlock the powerful potential of character archetypes in order to enrich their writing. The basic tenets of The Hero's Journey are derived from the depth psychology of Carl Jung and the studies of mythologist Joseph Campbell. Learn the eight basic archetypes and how they can help bring your stories to life on both page and screen. This meeting is sponsored by the FWA/ACC and the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine. Wednesday Brown Bag Lunch: Wendy Tatter

Friends of the Main Library St. AugustineWednesday, November 19 @ 12:30pm

ROWITA award-winning artist, Wendy Tatter, will discuss and demonstrate the process of batik. Wendy is known to Main Library patrons as the artist behind the beautiful batik of Jean Luoma reading to children in a garden. This work hangs in the childrens' section of the library and was commissioned by the Luoma family to honor her legacy as one of the library's founders and long-time advocates. Ms. Tatter does many of her batik works through commission and maintains a gallery on Anastasia Island. At this program, Ms. Tatter will offer select artwork and gifts for sale and donate a percentage of those sales to benefit the library. A $25 gift certificate for her shop will be awarded at a drawing at the program. Patrons are welcome to bring their lunch. Beverages and snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine. Seating is limited.

 

Silent Peace Meditation

Meditation teacher, Kathleen Roberts, will open the group with a short breathing exercise and lead us into a silent meditation, where the participants will think peace. J.A.A.M. (Japanese Anime At Main): Kimono Demonstration

JAAMThe teen anime club is excited to host this chance to learn how to wear traditional Japanese clothing. Casual Warrior's Kimono will provide a step-by-step demonstration on how to wear a kimono and tie an obi. Come to find out what an obi is! All who attend will be entered into a drawing for a haori (kimono jacket).
