Florida Writers AssociationThe Ancient City Chapter of the Florida Writers Association is hosting a presentation by Sharon Buck, author and marketing expert. This workshop will cover:

  • How to grab your viewer's attention immediately
  • How to use your book trailer over and over again to increase your book sales
  • Why animation works so well in a book trailer
  • The one secret almost everyone overlooks in a book trailer
  • How you can create your own book trailer.... for free!

Teddy Bear Sleepover

It's a teddy bear sleepover at Main! Bring your favorite stuffed friend, teddy bear or otherwise, and read some bedtime stories, enjoy some snacks and then tuck them in for a library sleepover. Your favorite stuffed friend will play with all the other stuffed animals all night long.  Pick them up the next day and they'll tell you all about the fun they had. A selection of special books is individually priced at $3.00 and up. The book sale is held by the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine as a fundraiser. All sale proceeeds support programs and other needs of the Main Library.

Florida Writers Association: To Outline or Not to Outline?

This workshop compares the more structured approach of plotting before you write with what many consider the ultimate creative process of jumping in and uncovering the story as you write. Author Victor Digenti will present many examples, testimonials, and even an alternate outlining scenario using fairy tales as a foundation. You'll leave this one-hour workshop with a newfound appreciation for the writing process. Participants will learn:

  • The pros and cons of outlining
  • The pros and cons of writing by the seat of your pants
  • How to use both in your writing
  • Using the "Fairy Tale" structure of outlining

Wednesday Brown Bag Lunch: St. Augustine's Literary Legacy - With David Nolan

Celebrate St. Augustine's literary legacy and join the Friends as David Nolan, author, historian, and civil rights activist presents an armchair tour of St. Augustine's historic homes of literary significance. Nolan is a contributing author to A Booklover's Guide to Florida, published in 1992. He worked on the first official survey of old buildings in St. Augustine. After what he describes as a "twenty year love affair with historic architecture," he collaborated with artist Jean Ellen Fitzpatrick and photographer Ken Barrett to produce The Houses of St. Augustine, published in 1995.

For this special program, reservations will be required. Seating is limited, so please call the Main Library to make your reservations. Patrons are welcome to bring their lunch. Beverages and snacks will be provided. For more information, please contact Friends President Toni Siriani.

MAIN-iac Science Labs - Hour of Code: an introduction to programming for kids

Mainiac Labs is branching out into new territory by participating in the world wide Hour of Code! Kids (Ages 4+), can explore a basic introduction to computer science and even learn basic programming skills using the Angry Birds platform. This one hour program is designed to demystify code and show that anyone can learn the basics. There will be a guided lesson followed by individual and group exploration.
