Children's Book Week: Musical Storybooks presented by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra's String Quartet

Join us in celebrating Children's Book Week with a very special storytime featuring the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and Mole Music by David McPhail! Youth Services Librarian (and former clarinetist!) Anne Crawford, the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, are partnering to invite Kindergartners - 5th graders and their caregivers to celebrate the magic that is music! In culmination of the Musical Madness for Kids series, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra will present a special Musical Storybooks program for preschoolers and their families featuring children's book Mole Music by David McPhail and the String Quartet. Come get a taste of the magical world of classical music!

Please note:  the Musical Storybooks program is geared toward preschoolers. If you wish to bring younger children to any of these programs, please be mindful of the decorum expected for everyone's enjoyment. Teen Movie Club

Teens (Ages 13 - 18 ONLY) are invited to join us at our new Movie Club featuring primarily book-to-movie adaptations! Bring your friends, chow down on pizza and sodas, and let us know if the movie lived up to the book. You don't have to read the book to come, but the books are all available in the library. We will be watching the first movie in the Pitch Perfect series starring Anna Kendrick in anticipation of Pitch Perfect 2 which releases on May 15 in theatres. This movie is based on a book (non-fiction):  Pitch Perfect: The quest for collegiate a cappella glory by Mickey Rapkin. Free Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Ages 3 - 5

childrenChildren ages 3 - 5 are invited to receive a free, 10-minute Early Literacy Screening at the library, courtesy of Nemours BrightStart. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lie, and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school.

 

Adventures in Art: Tour of Cummer Museum & Lunch

May "Just for Babies" and Family Storytimes

Just for Babies - Held Thursdays, May 14 and May 28 at 10:15am; for babies up to 15 months and their caregivers. This infant lapsit is designed for one-on-one interaction between caregiver and baby. Families with multiple children are encouraged to attend Family Storytime.

Family Storytime - Held every Thursday morning in May at 11am; for children 16 months - 5 years and their families, though no child will be turned away. For more information on system-wide library storytimes, please go here. Please note:  May 7 at 11 am is our special Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra program for preschoolers, Musical Storybooks!

Children's reading logs for this summer's Florida Library Youth Program (FLYP) will be available at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for pick up starting Monday, June 8! Starting June 14, all children who read or are read to are invited to start marking their reading logs for each day he/she reads, is read to, or attends a library program and win prizes for reading. This summer's theme is Every Hero Has a Story, and we hope you will join us for a heroic summer of reading and spending time at your library! Ponte Vedra Beach Library "Just Desserts" Cookbook Club

Wednesday, June 17 @3 pm

Escape tfruit tarthe ordinary and come to a meeting of the "Just Desserts" Cookbook Club.  Participation is easy.  Borrow a cookbook from the library, make a dessert with this month's featured ingredient, and bring the cookbook and samples to the meeting. This month's featured ingredient is "summer fruit". Be prepared for a lively discussion of the cookbooks and some delicious taste tests.  Iced tea and lemonade will be served. Do you love bugs? All children ages 6 - 12 are invited to become a true Nature Hero and learn all about dragonflies and hummingbirds, two amazing pollinators, with the Sisterhood of the Traveling Plants! These fun, educational workshops are hands-on with take-home gardening goodies for you, ending with a craft with the Arts in Motion Club teens of Nease High School. The second workshop is a repeat of the first. These workshops are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library and the Garden Club of St. Augustine.
