BooksJoin us for a Great Books Discussion. The group meets monthly and the books to be discussed are from the 1st Series of the Great Books Reading & Discussion Program. This month's selection is Genesis from the Bible. We welcome all interested readers. This program is made possible by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

 

After-School Crafts with Teens

Children (Kindergarten - 5th grade), and their caregivers, are invited to make crafts with the teens of Nease High School's Arts in Motion Club. Materials are provided by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. No registration is needed and it's free. Please Note: All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.

 

Teen Gaming Night

teen gamingWednesday, April 8 @ 5pm (2nd Wed. due to Early Voting!)

Teens (Ages 13-18) are invited to have fun with friends at the library. Play "E" and "T"-rated games on our PlayStation 3, Nintendo WiiU, Nintendo Wii, or X-Box 360 set up on three TVs for simultaneous playing. Don't worry about waiting for a turn - we'll have board games to play. Snacks will be provided. Free Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Ages 3 - 5

Thursday, April 9 from 10am - 12:30pm 

childrenChildren ages 3 - 5 are invited to receive a free, 10-minute Early Literacy Screening at the library, courtesy of Nemours BrightStart. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lie, and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school.

 

Ponte Vedra Antique Appraisal Showcase

Do you have a treasure in your attic? The Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library invite you to bring your family heirlooms or garage sale bargains to be appraised and join the hundreds of people who have experienced the thrill of discovering they had a hidden treasure! Experts in various fields will be on hand providing oral appraisals on individual items including books, coins, fine art, jewelry, toys, and more. Only two items per patron, please. The Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library request $10 for up to 2 items to help support your community library. You may have a treasure waiting to be discovered! Book Talk Cafe - Dr. Matthew Corrigan

This month's Book Talk Cafe will feature Dr. Matthew Corrigan, who will discuss his book, Conservative Hurricane: How Jeb Bush Remade Florida. The book takes a detailed look at how Jeb Bush used enhanced constitutional powers and the force of his personality and intellect to enact significant conservative and political policy changes in Florida.  This program is made possible by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

 

National Library Week: Teen Movie Club

MovieTuesday, April 14 from 5pm - 7:30pm

Are there "unlimited possibilities" in making J.R.R. Tolkien's richly written, but very short The Hobbit into three separate films or not? Debate that and much more at our April Teen Movie Club! Teens (Ages 13 - 18 ONLY) are invited to celebrate National Library Week and its theme, "Unlimited Possibilities," by joining us at our new Movie Club featuring primarily book-to-movie adaptations! Bring your friends, chow down on pizza and sodas, and let us know if the movie lived up to the book. You don't have to read the book to come, but the books are all available in the library. We will be watching the newly released final 3rd chapter (PG-13) of The Hobbit written by J.R.R. Tolkien. National Library Week - Musical Madness for Kids: Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra's String Quintet

Celebrate the National Library Week theme, "Unlimited Possibilities," afforded so richly through music! Youth Services Librarian (and former clarinetist!) Anne Crawford, the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, are partnering to invite Kindergartners - 5th graders and their caregivers to celebrate the magic that is music. The series continues in April with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra's String Quintet coming to perform for you and teach you all about their musical instruments. Come get a taste of the magical world of classical music!

Please note: the Musical Madness series is geared toward the elementary-aged child with Musical Storybooks (May 7 @ 11am) geared toward preschoolers. If you wish to bring younger children to any of these programs, please be mindful of the decorum expected for everyone's enjoyment. National Library Week: Family Storytime

Join Ms. Anne for a very special Family Storytime including special guest reader, Assistant County Administrator, Jerry Cameron, as we celebrate our wonderful library during National Library Week! We'll read some favorite books and dance to all our usual storytime songs with a special activity provided by our beloved Ms. Gail, Bird Island Park volunteer and member of the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. "Unlimited Possibilities" - this year's National Library Week's theme - begin at your library!

The Community Room will be organized with an eclectic collection of wonderful books in excellent condition. The "Better Books Room" will have its share of volumes that any patron would be happy to own at reasonable prices. Tuesday's preview is open only to Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library members. This is your chance to get first choice of books. You can become a Friend of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library at Seymour's Book Store or at the event and membership begins at just $25. Wednesday through Saturday, the Book Sale will be open to the public. Saturday will once again be Bag Day, where each bag of books is $9. All proceeds go to support the Friends' Mission to make our library an outstanding educational, cultural, civic, and recreational center for the community.

Dr. Gerson Yessin Music Series

MusicThis month's program will feature two pianists, mother and daughter, Dr. Eda Mazo-Shlyam, and Dr. Rose Shlyam Grace, who will present a four-hand, one piano program.  Everyone is welcome and it's free. Adult Bingo for Books

Win adult popular fiction and nonfiction books while having fun playing Bingo for free! All materials will be supplied by the library and everyone will go home with at least one free book.

 

LEGO Club for Tweens

Wednesday, April 29 from 3pm - 4:30pm (held the 4th Wed. due to the Book Sale!)

LegoTweens in 4th - 7th grades (ages 9 - 13) are invited to the library for an afternoon of building with Legos and hanging out! No registration is necessary and it's free. Thanks to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for providing the Legos for this very special program just for Tweens, including our pink Legos. Tween girl Lego lovers, we want you to join our club, too. All young LEGO lovers, please enjoy our brand-new LEGO table in the Children's Department, purchased by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, so that this special program may just be for the Tweens!

The St. Johns County Public Library System and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants are teaming up to celebrate Wi$e Money Week April 26 - May 2, 2015 by offering free financial planning workshops.

"Just for Babies" and Family Storytimes

storytimeMs. Anne presents programs for little ones!

Just for Babies: 2nd and 4th Thursdays @10:15am; for babies up to 15 months and their caregivers. This infant lapsit is designed for one-on-one interaction between caregiver and baby. Families with babies and older siblings are encouraged to attend Family Storytime.

Family Storytime: Every Thursday @11am; for children 16 months to 5 years and their families, though no child will be turned away. For more information on system-wide library storytimes, please go here.

There will be no storytime programming on April 2 due to Early Voting and April 23 due to the Book Sale!
