BooksJoin us for a Great Books Discussion. The group meets monthly and the book to be discussed is chosen at the prior meeting. We welcome all interested readers. This program is made possible by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

 

 

December Just for Babies and Family Storytimes

Just for Babies - Held December 2 and December 16 at 10:15am; for babies up to 15 months and their caregivers. This infant lapsit is designed for one-on-one interaction between caregiver and baby. Families with multiple children are encouraged to attend Family Storytime.

Family Storytime - Held every Tuesday morning in December at 11am; for children 16 months - 5 years and their families, though no child will be turned away. For more information on system-wide library storytimes, please go here.

Thank you to Ms. Gail and Ms. Suzanne - our wonderful library and Bird Island Park volunteers - for providing storytime programming during December, a program planning month for our Youth Services Librarian Anne Crawford.

 

JEA Workshop for Kids

Wednesday, December 3 @ 3pm

Kids JEA WorkshopAttention math geeks and science nerds: your parents need your help to save energy and money. Come to our DIY Science program and learn how to measure energy used in your home. You can then use these calculations to see where you can make some changes to save money and help save the earth. You’ll be able to borrow a home energy kit for two weeks to do your own experiments at home. Recommended for ages 10 and up (unless you’re a MATH GENIUS.) Please bring your adult with you. Teen Gaming Night

Teens (Ages 13-18) are invited to have fun with friends at the library. Play "E" and "T"-rated games on our PlayStation 3, Nintendo WiiU, Nintendo Wii, or X-Box 360 set up on three TVs for simultaneous playing. Don't worry about waiting for a turn - we'll have board games to play. Snacks will be provided. This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library and our friends at Sony. Call the library at 827-6950 for more details.

 

Teen Advisory Board

Tuesday, December 9 @ 4:30pm

Teens (Ages 13 - 18) are invited to join our Teen Advisory Board teensand have a say in the materials we order for teens, the teen programs we offer, and much more at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. Participation in the Teen Advisory Board counts as volunteer service hours and snacks are provided by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. Join us for our meeting and get involved.

 

Bedtime Holiday Storytime with Ms. Suzanne of Bird Island Park

Tuesday, December 9 @ 6:30pm

The whole family is invited to join one of our favorite Bird Blue Ornament & TinselIsland Park storytime volunteers, Ms. Suzanne, for a very special holiday storytime featuring The Polar Express! Come wearing your pajamas, if you wish, and light refreshments will be provided. Thank you to the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for sponsoring this special annual holiday celebration at our library.

 

After-School Crafts with Teens

Children (K - 5th grade), and their caregivers, are invited to make crafts with the teens of Nease High School's Arts in Motion Club. Materials are provided by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. No registration is needed and it's free. Please Note: All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.

 

Free Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Ages 3 - 5

Tuesday, December 16 from 10am - 12:30pm

childrenChildren ages 3-5 are invited to receive a free, 10-minute Early Literacy Screening at the library, courtesy of Nemours BrightStart. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lie, and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school.

Wednesday, December 17 @ 4pm

LegoTweens in 4th-7th grades (ages 9 - 13) are invited to the library for an afternoon of building with Legos and hanging out. No registration is necessary and it's free. Thanks to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for providing the Legos for this very special program just for Tweens, including our pink Legos. Tween girl Lego lovers, we want you to join our club, too.

Musical Madness for Kids presents Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra's Brass Quintet

MusicWednesday, January 14 from 3:00 - 4:00 pm

Youth Services Librarian (and former clarinetist!) Anne Crawford, the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra are partnering to invite Kindergartners - 5th graders and their caregivers to celebrate the magic that is music! In January, February, and April 2015, the Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, and String Quintet respectively will each be coming to our library after school to perform for you and teach you all about their musical instruments. In May 2015, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra will present a special Musical Storybooks program for preschoolers and their families featuring children's book Mole Music by David McPhail and the String Quartet. Come get a taste of the magic world of classical music!

Please note:  the Musical Madness series is geared toward the elementary-aged child with Musical Storybooks geared toward preschoolers. If you wish to bring younger children to any of these programs, please be mindful of the decorum expected for everyone's enjoyment. This special music series is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

MovieTuesday, January 27 from 5:00 - 7:30pm (new, starting in January 2015!)

Held once a month on Tuesday every month during the school year! Teens ages 13 - 18 ONLY are invited to join our brand-new Movie Club featuring primarily book-to-movie adaptations! Bring your friends, chow down on pizza and sodas, and let us know if the movie lived up to the book. You don't have to read the book to come, but the books are all available in the library! Kicking off this new event will be a recent book-to-movie adaptation (rated PG-13) based off the first book in The Maze Runner series by James Dashner.
