Who let the dogs out? Elementary students and beginning readers are invited to join our volunteer therapy dogs for a barking good time. Read your favorite stories to these clever canines and become a member of the Read to Rover Frequent Reader Club. Don't miss this great experience. Cookie will be visiting the library today. Read her one of your favorite books or one of the many doggie tales we have at the library.

This will be our last spring Read to Rover session. The dogs will be going on vacation this summer, but they'll be happy to see you again in the fall.

 

Viva Florida 500 Program: Native Plants Workshop

Join Renee Stambaugh, Master Gardener and owner of Native Plants Consulting, as she discusses how to use Florida natives as a cost-effective alternative to other plants. Plants will be for sale with some of the proceeds going to the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

Parents, please note that this program will take place outside in the library courtyard and EVERYONE will get wet!  Bathing suits and coverups for children are recommended; shoes are required.

Teen Financial Literacy Workshop (Ages 15-20)

Are you starting your first job, graduating from high school, or heading off to college? Whatever the reason, every teen needs to learn how to manage money. The St. Johns River Chapter of Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the St. Johns County Public Library System are teaming up to offer this full day (10 am to 3 pm) workshop to teens age 15-20. Subjects covered will be budgeting, saving, personal investing, using credit wisely, avoiding identity theft and more. Class size is limited so call us at 827-6900 or stop by the Youth Services Desk to register! This workshop is sponsored by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library and lunch will be provided.

Summer Reading Program: Fractured Fairytales - A Pirate's Life for Me

skullAarrgh ye ready, landlubbers?  It’s time to set sail for adventure with Captain Kristine and First Mate Alex!  Turn in your completed reading log and be transformed into a pirate – you’ll even get a new pirate name!  Then help the Captain and First Mate tell a classic fairytale story (all wrong, of course).  The treasure map in the story will lead you to the treasure and the special guests that hold it!

Parents, please note that this program will take place (mostly) outside and that your child will get wet.  Appropriate swimwear and cover-ups are permitted; shoes are required.

We will continue reading The Year of the Book by Andrea Cheng.  This story follows a young Chinese American girl as she navigates relationships with family, friends, and her fourth grade classroom, and finds a true best friend.
