Ever wonder what kind of adventures your library books have been on? Catch a book with the bookcrossing sticker and follow the instructions on the label. Go to www.bookcrossing.com to see where the book has been and make a new journal entry so that other BookCrossers can see where it's traveled to and stay connected with books they've borrowed!
October 14 through October 20
It's Teen Read Week! This year's theme: It Came from the Library. Submit your own haunted haiku (illustrations welcome!) between October 14th and October 20th. Submissions will be displayed through Halloween. (Haiku refresher: a poem of three lines, the first made up of five syllables, the second of seven, and the third of five.)
Tuesday, October 23 @ 5:30 pm
There are a great many scary stories to tell. Some are very old, and they are told around the world. Some are very new, and may very well be true. We'll be turning out the lights, eating popcorn, and sharing tales of ghosts, monstrous creatures, bogey-men, death, and other dangers through shadow puppet theatre. What lurks in the shadows, hides in the darkness, and creeps underfoot? Come find out....if you dare!
Tuesday, October 23 @ 4:30 pm
Teens, you can just forget about those boring Jack-O-Lanterns. Come to the library & make something frightfully awesome! We’ll provide the pumpkins, and you bring your best D.I.Y skills. Inspiration, tools and tips also provided. Program sponsored by the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County.
Wednesday, October 17 @ 4 pm
Tweens and teens are invited to celebrate Teen Read Week with an afterschool gaming session, featuring some of your favorite games on the PS3, xbox 360, & Wii! Just for coming we'll let each gamer pick out a FREE young adult book from our reading cart. Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library.
October 1 through October 29
Join the SPOOKY fun for Teen Read Week and create a horror short story about the library or one of those creepy librarians! Who knows what might lurk in the stacks or ooze from the reference desk? You do...and you can tell us. Pick up an entry form at the Main Library for the contest rules, and turn in your story by October 29 to win a $25 gift card for a mystery location.
