Bringing the Library Home

We have missed seeing you for in-person library services. We hope you are staying healthy and using our digital library collections or participating in our ongoing virtual classes and programs. Our Ask A Librarian service is also available on the Library’s website to answer your reference questions, help with your library account, or provide assistance with our digital resources. We are glad so many of you are staying connected to us digitally and it is our pleasure to support you.

Times may have changed, but what has not changed is SJCPLS’ commitment to a fun summer reading program! Dating as far back as the 1890s, summer reading programs emerged as a way to encourage children to read when they were not in school. These programs, with the goals of preventing summer learning loss, building reading skills, and encouraging lifelong reading practices, are still very prevalent today. However, do not think that our summer reading programs are just for kids!

Every year, thousands of people of all ages take part in SJCPLS’ The Best Summer reading program! Thanks to a generous donation from our Friends of the Libraries, we are able to use the popular READSquared online program as a fun and interactive way to keep everyone reading and active all summer long. Plan to take part in this fun annual program in June and July, and stay tuned for more information through our website and social media outlets.
Our sincere thanks to you for your patience and understanding over the past two months and going forward as we work to re-open our library buildings in a way that keeps staff and the public safe.

Sincerely,

Debra Rhodes Gibson

Library System Director, St. Johns County Public Library System
