Letter from the Library Director:

Leap Into Reading @ Your Library

National Library Week is a time to celebrate your library and to contemplate the impact a library has on our community and our lives. The public library is about connections between the individual and information and between the individual and others in the community and beyond. Today’s libraries help level the playing field by making both print and digital information affordable, available, and accessible to all people. The strength of libraries has always been the diversity of their collections and commitment to serving all people.

In addition to our collections, we offer a wide range of programming for all ages in all of our libraries and out in the community. Our Friends of the Library support organizations sponsor much of our programming. Library events are free and open to the public. Here are just a few of the 68+ events planned for you this month:

  • “Ride & Read” – Show your library card on the first Wednesday of each month at any COA Sunshine bus stop and ride for free that day! There’s a bus stop near each of our six library locations.
  • Enjoy solar eclipse events at the Main and Ponte Vedra Beach branch libraries.
  • Are you a job seeker? Check out the Hastings Job Fair on April 6 at the Harris Community Center.
  • Need last-minute help with your taxes? Check our website for AARP Tax-Aide assistance centers and make an appointment.
  • Expanded library hours begin on Sunday, April 7, at Bartram Trail, Main, Ponte Vedra Beach, and Southeast branch libraries and on Monday, April 8, at the Anastasia Island and Hastings branches.
  • Join the teens at Bartram Trail on April 10 for advanced teen sewing fun.
  • Show off your creative side by designing a bookmark for us! The contest is categorized by age group, and the winners in each category will receive a prize provided by our local Friends of the Library groups. Four grand prize-winning designs will also be turned into bookmarks available in all our locations!

So, come celebrate National Library Week with us! Connect with our staff and each other; Learn and Enjoy through various events, programs, and materials. Experience a lot of “Library Love” at your local library April 7-13, 2024. Check the library website, www.sjcpls.org, or contact your local library branch for more information.
