Letter from the Library Director:

Celebrate Stars, Stripes, and Stories @ Your Library

Celebrate Stars, Stripes, and Stories @ Your Library

Greetings, Library Patrons!

Last month, we enjoyed the great outdoors! This month, we continue the adventure with the dual celebrations of National Parks and Recreation Month and America’s 250th anniversary. For more details on our local, national, and state parks, check out last month’s newsletter.

St. Johns County offers a variety of community parks and amenities that provide recreational opportunities, natural beauty, and community engagement for residents and visitors alike. For more detailed information, check out the St. Johns County Parks & Recreation website and explore the many ways SJC Parks and Recreation is making our communities happier and healthier.

To celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, the Library System is offering over 100 entertaining and informative events throughout the summer months. Stop by any of our six branch libraries to enjoy:

  • Americana-themed family festivities, including historic reenactors, games, scavenger hunts, and even displays on America’s favorite pastime, baseball.
  • Educational, close-up experiences exploring our nation’s natural wonders presented by partner organizations, e.g., Garden Clubs of St. Augustine, St. Johns County Parks & Rec, Wild Lessons, and Wild Wonders.
  • Arts, crafts, movies, trivia, and so much more!

Beyond the programs, the library’s collections also offer many opportunities to discover the joys of the outdoors. Check out our Library of Things to try your hand at pickleball or borrow a telescope to explore the stars as a family. There are a variety of American history titles in our adult and children’s collections, available in print, audio, and digital formats. If you’re looking for something closer to home, check out the titles about St. Augustine – famous events, persons, and even walking tours of our historic haunts and hangouts.

From picnics and fireworks to pickleball and America’s history, you can find it all throughout St. Johns County parks and libraries. There’s definitely something here for everyone in your family! Stop in and check us out!
