Celebrity Chef Warren Caterson presents “Seafood 101: Cooking Finfish and Shellfish for Two at Home.” In this presentation, Chef Warren shares dozens of kitchen tips, cooking hints and humorous anecdotes about the joys and challenges of cooking seafood for two. Chef Warren will answer such questions as: Should I buy my seafood fresh or frozen? My fish seems to always come out dry. Is there a fix? What’s the best way to cook fish? What’s the difference between farm-raised and wild-caught fish, and is one better than the other? Why are fish like tilapia so widely available and inexpensive? Can I use canned oysters or clams in place of fresh? Is it okay to serve red wine with seafood? And many more. Chef Warren will end the presentation with a seafood cooking demonstration, preparing a healthy seafood entrée that anyone can replicate in their own home in less than 10 minutes.

“Deep in the Colombian mountains, the Madrigal family possesses an extraordinary secret. Each member of the family is able to perform magic. Yet at the heart of the family is 15-year-old Mirabel, who does not seem to possess any unusual abilities. Faced with this harsh reality, Mirabel struggles to reconcile her place within her family while searching for who she truly is.” Rated PG for “mild peril, some thematic elements.”

Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine is pleased to welcome award-winning author Diana Abu-Jaber to discuss her latest novel. Winner of the PEN Center Award for Literary Fiction, the American Book Award, a finalist for the Pen Hemingway Award, and winner of the 2012 Arab American National Book Award, Jordanian American author Diana Abu-Jaber is celebrated for her lush and evocative explorations of place and identity, and her breakthrough novel, Fencing with the King, is no exception. With her trademark eloquence, Abu-Jaber has written a sophisticated novel equal parts mystery, family drama, political intrigue, and love story. Set against the backdrop of upper-class Jordan in the 1990s, Fencing with the King is a seductive and compelling exploration of a multigenerational family, the fearsome weight of a life lived in exile, and the great distances we will travel in an attempt to uncover the truth about ourselves and those we love most.
This program is free and open to the public, and will take place at The Waterworks, 184 San Marco Ave., which shares a parking lot with the Main Library. Seating begins at 12:00 pm, and the presentation starts promptly at 1:00 pm. No reservations are required. For more information, please email bmaycumber@sjcfl.us or call the Main Library at 904-827-6940. Print copies of The Christie Affair, while they last, are available at the Adult Reference Desk at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for checkout. You can also request a copy of this selection in our catalog: The Christie Affair. If you need assistance requesting this selection, please stop by the Adult Reference Desk or call our Library at (904) 827-6950. Book Synopsis “The Christie Affair follows the story of Nan O’Dea, the mistress of Agatha Christie’s husband. The book takes place in the days preceding and during the infamous 11-day disappearance of Agatha Christie. Nan was once a girl who fell in love with a boy in Ireland, though they were unable to be together. In this story about love, revenge, and the past catching up to the present, The Christie Affair explores Nan’s story as it fictionalizes what could have happened during those fateful 11 days.” (taken from The Bibliophile)

REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Join us for an outdoor book club that focuses on our natural world. We discuss our all-time favorite nature titles, both fiction and non-fiction. The book club meets at parks throughout St. Johns County, practically in your own backyard!
This month we’ll be reading whatever you want to read! Your assignment is to read an adult nature-themed book that you haven’t read before and to report back to the group! Not sure what to read? There is an excellent list on the lower right side of another book club here. Our print catalog is located here, our Hoopla catalog here, and our Libby catalog is here. We will be meeting at Canopy Shores Park, located at 804 Christina Drive in the St. Augustine Shores subdivision.
This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. If the weather is sunny, please bring your own camp chair for sitting out under the trees. If it’s rainy, we’ll be sitting in the park pavilion. Feel free to bring your own snacks & beverages! Please notify us at least 3 days in advance if you should need a sign language interpreter. If you have questions please contact Amy at aackerman@sjcfl.us or 904.827.6942.
This book club is a partnership between the St. Johns County Public Library System and the St. Johns County Parks & Recreation Department. Some materials are supplied by the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine.

Join us at Anastasia Library for a special murder mystery game series. The week before a session at Camp Ashburne, the counselors meet for a bonfire but when they return the next morning, they find one of the counselors lying dead in the embers of the fire. The death is ruled an accident. However, in the course of cleaning out a cabin, the camp owner’s daughter finds evidence that suggests the death was a homicide.
Tackle the case one clue at a time by solving puzzles, diving into the evidence, and eliminating the suspects one by one. This is a two part murder mystery game! Registration Required as space is limited.
