In honor of Black History Month, the Hastings Branch Library will host a showing of the 2006 Documentary Dare Not Walk Alone, written and directed by Jeremy Dean, artist and filmmaker, AND a 2002 Flagler College graduate. While working on a stained-glass window restoration project at a historic black church in downtown St. Augustine, Jeremy learned about the local events and troubled times that solidified the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. His film combines archived and previously unaired footage from the time period with interviews from people who lived the history in an emotionally powerful and relevant presentation.
“Dare Not Walk Alone charts how the St. Augustine movement was pivotal in helping pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and how local residents continue their struggle to claim the equality promised by the movement forty years earlier.” JEREMY DEAN (jeremy-dean.com)
