As part of a month-long celebration of the Heritage and the Culture of the Minorcans, The Minorcan Experience and St. Johns County Public Library System bring you local author and fellow Minorcan, Ryan Saxon.
Ryan Saxon will discuss A Tour of St. Augustine: History, Food, and Culture – A Minorcan Perspective, and Maria’s Secret Ingredient, a Minorcan children’s book. Ryan will be selling and signing books after the presentation. A percentage of the sales will be supporting the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library.
The Events Room will open at 1:30 p.m.
Minorcans, the collective name given to a diverse group of Mediterranean peoples from Minorca, as well other Balearic Islands, Italy, Corsica, Greece, and France, arrived in St. Augustine in the eighteenth century during the British Period, and before long became an integral part of St. Augustine’s economy, serving as carpenters, artisans, sailors, farmers, masons, innkeepers, shoemakers, and fisherman. The Minorcan Experience keeps these traditions alive today.
