Event Details

May is Preservation Month, a national event celebrating historic places and heritage. Join Main Library’s Adult Programming Coordinator Beth online as she spotlights local historic preservation and architectural history in St. Augustine. Beth will introduce Laura Marion, Collections Coordinator at Governor’s House Library, and Casey Wooster, Collections Assistant at Governor’s House Library, who will describe the efforts of the Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board to transform and renovate properties in downtown St. Augustine. Operating as a state agency between the years 1959 to1997, the Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board restored or reconstructed nearly 30 Spanish Colonial structures, transforming St. Augustine’s historic downtown district. The video will provide a glimpse of three historic properties in the 1950s and 1960s before their transformation and renovation, including the Arrivas House, St. George Street, and the Wakeman House. This program will be recorded, and can be conveniently viewed on our website, our Facebook page, or our Youtube channel.
