Join Main Library’s Adult Programming Assistant Beth online as she visits historic Fish Island with archaeologist and Friends of Fish Island member Marsha Chance. Fish Island is an approximately 73-acre cultural landscape located on the Matanzas River and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Named for the infamous eighteenth-century St. Augustine resident Jesse Fish who established Florida’s first large commercial orange plantation on the island, Fish Island is comprised of undeveloped upland buffer, wetlands, and wildlife habitat, and boasts several points of archaeological interest.
