Event Details

Join Main Library’s Adult Programming Coordinator Beth online as she learns about a period of Native American incarceration in St. Augustine during the nineteenth century and also sees some of the artifacts left behind, in honor of Native American Heritage Month. First Beth will learn about the experiences of Plains Indians confined at Fort Marion (as the Castillo de San Marcos was then called) from 1875-1878 from National Park Service Rangers Amy Vela and Jill Leverett. Then Beth will visit the NPS museum storage facility at Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve to meet with Curator Anne Lewellen where she will see and learn more about ledger art created at Fort Marion during the Plains Indians’ captivity. This program can be conveniently viewed on our website, our Facebook page, or our Youtube channel.
