The Sisterhood of the Traveling Plants celebrates our St. Johns Reads 2022 theme, “Secrets,” as they put together Victorian flower arrangements! Did you know that, in Victorian times, people used flowers to communicate messages they couldn’t otherwise say out loud? For instance, certain flowers say, “I burn for you” while others say, “I distrust you.” Find out more when you access this presentation from any device: phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop PC. Anyone can watch live or anytime afterwards via SJCPLS’s Facebook and YouTube channels, so please spread the word! This special virtual presentation is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library and presented by the Sisterhood who are members of the Las Adelfas Circle of the Garden Club of St. Augustine.
Dive into St. Johns Reads 2022’s secrets theme and have fun with the Sisterhood! Be sure to check out the books we own on Victorian flower meanings here, too: Victorian Flower books and e-books. If you have any questions, please call the Library at 827-6950. This program can be conveniently viewed on SJCPLS’ website, our Facebook page, or our Youtube channel.
St. Johns Reads is the St. Johns County Public Library System’s annual “Community Reads” program. Presented for the 17th year, 2022’s program features four different books, unified by the theme “secrets”: “The Vanishing Half,” by Britt Bennett, “Crossing the Creek: The Literary Friendship of Zora Neale Hurston and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings,” by Anna Lillios, “Little Fires Everywhere,” by Celeste Ng, and a title for young adults, “Children of Blood and Bone,” by Tomi Adeyemi. The four featured titles are available to enjoy in print, large print, audiobook on disc, digital audiobook, and ebook formats. “St. Johns Reads: Secrets” also presents a variety of both in-person and virtual programming inspired by the selected books. Special thanks to our generous Friends of the Library groups for sponsoring our St. Johns Reads program.
