Event Details

October 10th is Indigenous Peoples Day! Join Main Library’s Adult Programming Coordinator Beth online as she shares an excerpt of an interview with Dr. Timothy J. Johnson, the Craig and Audrey Thorn Distinguished Professor of Religion at Flagler College, discussing a rare Spanish-Timucua text that was written early in the seventeenth century in St. Augustine, and published in Mexico City. When Europeans arrived in our area in the sixteenth century, there were nearly 200,000 Timucua living in this region. Dr. Johnson discusses the context of how this religious book was written by both the Spanish Franciscan friar Francisco Pareja and unnamed Timucua authors. This program will be recorded, and can be conveniently viewed on our Facebook page or our Youtube channel.
