Registration required. Fort Matanzas is well known as the National Monument that helped protect St. Augustine for hundreds of years when it was an active fort for the Spanish military. What you might not realize is that Fort Matanzas is just a small part of the 300 acre park and this area is a mosaic of natural habitats. Working together, the maritime forest, the dune, scrub, and salt marsh ecosystems are able to provide food and shelter for a myriad variety of plants and animals. Kurt Foote, the Natural Resource Management Specialist of Fort Matanzas, will be joining us for a presentation on the plants that can be found in this area. Space is limited, so register now! Kurt has been with the National Park Service for 25 years and has worked in national parks in Arizona, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and now Florida (for the past 10 years). He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Ecology and served in the Peace Corps in Senegal before joining the NPS.
