Learn more about Queen Isabel of Spain, wife of Ferdinand, who is mostly known for funding Christopher Columbus; Emma Thompson who dressed as a man and fought in the Civil War, even dressed as a woman to spy for the Union Army; Mary Kingsley, an Englishwoman who traveled around Western Africa in the 1890’s with her full Victorian dress, her canvas bathtub and a few native guides – exploring some areas before any other European; Isaak Dinesen, author and well-known noblewoman who experienced life both Scandinavia and Africa; and Gertrude Bell who traveled more than 20,000 miles across the deserts of what is now Syria, Iran and Iraq to promote Arab self-rule.

The performers are Margaret Kahler, a St. Augustine native who is an actress and storyteller – and one of the founding members of the Tale Tellers of St. Augustine – and Kathleen Duffy, a former librarian, puppeteer, and storyteller she is a more recent member of the Tale Tellers of St. Augustine.
