St. Johns County Public Library System Cards
A St. Johns County Library card is all you need to unlock a world of educational and fun resources. Use it to search millions of books, eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, music, movies, and more. You can also easily place holds and renew materials online. Cards may be obtained on the same day as registration by providing a government-issued photo ID and one of the following forms of identification verifying name and current address in Florida:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License
- Florida Voter Registration Card
- Utility Bill
- Florida Property Tax Receipt
In order for a person 17 years old or younger to obtain a library card, both the legal guardian and the minor must be present at the time of application. The legal guardian must show proof of residency. The signing adult assumes financial and selection responsibility for the materials borrowed on their card.
Library cards may be used at all St. Johns County Public Library branch locations. Cardholders are responsible for all materials checked out on their card. Authorized individuals permitted to use a library account must present the account holder’s library card at the time of checkout. Materials will not be issued without the card.
Permanent Resident Cards
Any St. Johns County resident/taxpayer may register for a free library card at any St. Johns County Library. SJC library cards can expire due to inactivity, fee blocks, or for address verification. The resident/taxpayer should present photo I.D. and proof of current St. Johns County address, most recent tax statement, or be listed in the Property Appraisers database as proof of eligibility.
Paid Non-Resident Cards
New Paid Non-Resident Cards can be obtained by paying a non-refundable annual fee of $100, a 3 month fee of $30, or a 30-day fee of $12.
Reciprocal Borrowing Cards
The following counties currently offer reciprocal borrowing arrangements: Alachua, Baker, Bay, Bradford, Clay, Dixie, Flagler, Gilchrist, Gulf, Lafayette, Liberty, Nassau, Putnam, Taylor, and Union. Users from these counties may obtain a free non-resident SJCPLS library card with proof of residency. Please note: free non-resident cards do not provide access to Libby and Kanopy eContent.
Restricted Users
A restricted user is a library patron who is in transition. These residents have no way to provide proof of their SJC address. A photo I.D. is still required to obtain a restricted user card. Restricted user cards are free but expire at the end of three months. The following restrictions are placed on this card type:
- Only 2 items may be checked out at a time
- Only 2 items may be placed on hold
- No Interlibrary Loan Requests are allowed

What to do if you lose your card
Patrons who lose their library card must come into the library and present a photo ID.
Replacement card costs only $1 and will be issued a new card number. Patrons will be responsible for updating their accounts with eLibrary resources such as Libby.

How to Place a Hold
Placing a Hold
Next to the format of the item you want to place a hold on, either in search results or on the individual item’s page, click the place hold button.
Digital items can also have holds placed within Aspen Discovery in the same way.
View Your Holds
All of your holds, including digital items, can be found and managed within your account. Cancel, suspend, change your pickup location or view other items while you wait.

Can I register to vote at the library?
When applying for a library card, you may also complete your voter registration at the library. You also have the option to register to vote online.

Due to Florida State Statutes, staff members are unable to check out materials to you without a library card or photo ID.
