Library System Director Debra Rhodes Gibson is pleased to announce that the popular Food for Fines program will return this year in St. Johns County libraries and bookmobiles!
An opportunity to eliminate most library fines, Food for Fines will run from Monday, November 16 through Monday, December 21. The food items collected will be used to stock the St. Johns County Health and Human Services (HHS) Food Pantry, providing food for St. Johns County families in need.
It’s simple—bring one unexpired, non-perishable food item to the library and $1.00 of library fines will be waived from your record. The more you bring, the more the library will reduce your fines. This fine-reduction program applies only to overdue fines. Fees related to damaged or lost items are not included in the Food for Fines program.
Don’t have any fines? That’s okay; the library welcomes your donations made in the spirit of the holiday season. Your food donations may be dropped off at any St. Johns County Library branch or with one of our Bookmobiles.
Last year, nearly 9,000 food items were delivered to the HHS Food Pantry right before the holiday season. The Food for Fines program is a great win-win for the citizens of St. Johns County!
