Policy Title: Artwork Donation Proposal & Guidelines
The St. Johns County Public Library System (the “Library”) appreciates the desire of individuals and organizations to donate works of art (“artwork”) for public display in branch libraries. The following procedure clarifies the process of donating and the formal acceptance of artwork by the Library.
1. Persons who wish to donate artwork (“donors”) to the Library shall submit a completed Artwork Donation Agreement Form along with one or more photographs (.jpg format) of the artwork, which will be reviewed by Library Administration.
2. Library Administration shall evaluate the proposed donation using the criteria as stated in the Exhibit and Display Policy and make a recommendation to accept or not accept the artwork.
3. If accepted, the date of acceptance constitutes the date of the accession of the artwork into the Library’s collection.
4. A letter from the Library Director to the donor shall acknowledge all permanent gifts.
5. Once artwork is donated to the Library, it becomes the sole property of the Library. The Library reserves the right to display, store, sell, donate, or otherwise dispose of the artwork at its discretion, without notifying or seeking approval from the original donor. The Library is under no obligation to permanently display or retain any donated artwork.
